White in Berlin

But seriously … how could a New Year/Decade start better than with a blanket of snow? Wandered around Berlin this morning with hubby (in a cast by courtesy of Salzburgian slopes L) and man, doesn’t the city look like the perfect story of a New Year’s Day? Still a bit tousled from a rollercoaster ride of a year (Anybody who is not tired of the word “crisis” yet? Anybody?) but a clean slate ahead of you, all chances, excitements, boredoms and surprises that 2010 holds in store still under pristine white.

Got some glimpses of Berliners, too.

Stone-faced guy on his way back from last night’s party, leaning on a lamp post and trying hard to keep his stomach under control on one street.
Woman briskly passing by an outrageously big pile of firework remnants (yes, it’s legal here), commenting with “Maaann, die haben’s aber ernst gemeint.” (Those guys really meant it), re-confirming my impression of Berliners being quite well equipped with wry humor.

Promising start, that is. Let’s see about the rest of 2010.

Starting New

How to start a new life? Easy.

Just quit your job with a most prestigious search engine company you enjoyed working for, leave the city and country you loved (in your face all you Dublin/Ireland-moaners!), your friends there, move to a new city you know pretty much nobody in and try to make a living as a freelance writer, both online and literary, in a time of economic crisis. What do you think? Sounds foolish enough to me…

So, if you want to a) stay in touch b) don’t wanna stay in touch but to flex your facebook-muscle c) get some insights into Berlin’s more or less trivial life through Austro-bonafide-Irish eyes d) follow the trials and tribulations of a fledgling writer or e) just outright want to see somebody falling flat on her face in a quest to conquer the literary and online world – come along, see where this takes us, enjoy the ride and – if you like it – recommend this blog to others.

So. That’s the easy part over then. Next question: How to start a blog? Hmmm… what about a pun on its title?
